A diagnostic assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder may be warranted if there are concerns about a child’s communication, social skills and/or behavior. A diagnostic assessment for ADHD, Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder may also be undertaken after an initial consultation. In all diagnostic assessments, the process focuses on obtaining a holistic view of the child across his natural environments. This may involve a developmental history-taking session with the parent, an observation of the child and a teacher interview.
Psychometric / Educational Assessments
A full psycho-educational assessment is necessary if there are concerns about a child’s learning ability and/or educational performance. At the cutting edge of intelligence testing, a cross-battery approach to assessment is used. This involves looking at a child’s relevant areas and employing reliable, standardised tests to evaluate these areas. Diagnoses such as Giftedness, Intellectual Disability and Specific Learning Disorders can be ruled in or out using this method. This testing can also be a screener for Auditory Processing Disorder, which is made in conjunction with a report from an audiologist. A psycho-educational assessment can also be a helpful way of understanding your child’s unique profile of strengths and weaknesses. Recommendations will be made to enhance their learning potential in the classroom.
If you feel that your child may require an assessment, or if another professional has recommended it, please contact us via email to further discuss.
